Forest River in Winter
Description
1970, oil on cardboard, 68x85 cm /// The style of painter Edgars Vinters (1919–2014) is characterised by a blend of realism and impressionism. He was a Latvian landscape and plein-air painter. He studied at the Art Academy of Latvia, under lecturers who are considered classics of 20th-century Latvian painting. The artist himself has stated that the main purpose of his painting is to depict light, showcase colours, and create moods. In the manner of Impressionism, he painted a work featuring a winter landscape motif. The composition is created with small, pastose, thick strokes of paint, giving it a pronounced texture. The shapes are softened and modelled with brushstrokes, resulting in a tangible representation of atmosphere and light. Particular attention is given to the depiction of snow, using a wide palette of blue, grey, and white tones. /// The artist's signature and date are on the lower left side of the painting.
