Gladioli
Description
2002, oil on cardboard, 67x86 cm /// The style of painter Edgars Vinters (1919–2014) is characterised by a blend of realism and impressionism. He was a landscape and still-life painter, known for capturing light, colour, and atmosphere in his works. This still-life composition features a depiction of a flower vase. In this work, the artist deviates from his traditional plein air garden setting, opting instead for an abstract background. The table, whose outlines are depicted in a blurred and softened manner, serves as a pedestal for the vase. At the centre of the composition, with a slight optical close-up, are gladioli in various colours – flowers that symbolise the end of summer. The painting’s creation in August is further confirmed by the exact date inscribed in the corner of the artwork. The expressive and vibrant use of colours, applied in thick layers, is particularly evident in the depiction of the flowers. Their shapes are formed by closely placed, slightly elongated brushstrokes, adding volume to the objects. Light effects are showcased both in the rendering of the petals and on the surface of the ceramic vase. /// The artist's signature and date are on the lower right side of the painting.
