Sunflowers

2021, 73x82 cm, Oil on canvas /// One of the newest paintings by Kārlis Dobrājs, year of creation 2021. Still life composition with sunflower motif. The composition is structured as a monumental representation of one object bringing it as close as possible to the surface of the painting and expanding it along the entire plane. The part of sunflower flowers and leaves is formed with an emphasis on the volume of the shapes. The background is object-free and neutral. Although the painting is made in oil technique, it has a watercolour-like lightness and airiness. The paint is applied in an even and thin layer creating a smoothed surface of the painting. In the colour palette dominates light green, yellow and grey, observed equal intensity of shades and harmony.
