Sun in My Window

2019, oil on canvas, 100x150 cm /// The artistic style of Kārlis Dobrājs (1943), one of the classics of Latvian painting, is distinguished by the precision of academic drawing, a strong emphasis on form and volume, and a nuanced use of colour. The painting with a poetic title opens the view through the window at the same time depicting the reflection effect of the sun rays and the objects in the studio. The mirror image of the colour mixing palette is paired with brushes placed on the inside of the window sill. The apple orchard which can be seen through the window resonates with the apples in the centre of the composition. The painting is made with the clarity of the drawing, what is one of the characteristics of Dobrajs', and the masterful use of green colour, taking into account the nuances and intensity of the shades. /// The artist's signature and date are on the lower right side of the painting.
