Still Life with Two Wine Glasses

Description

2019, oil on canvas, 54x70 cm /// The artistic style of Kārlis Dobrājs (1943), one of the classics of Latvian painting, is distinguished by the precision of academic drawing, a strong emphasis on form and volume, and a nuanced use of colour. A still life composition with a motif of wine glasses which is complemented by several other objects - a bottle, fruits and dishes with a metal surface, a mirror placed in the background. The composition is constructed by extending the still life setting along the entire plane of the painting. The painting made in the manner typical of Dobrajs' with an emphasis on the clarity of shapes and the accuracy of the drawing. Masterfully shown the materiality of the depicted objects, the shapes are modelled taking into account the real volume of the objects. Emphasis is also placed on the depiction of the lights and shades highlighting the natural reflection of the illuminated places and objects. /// The artist's signature and date are on the lower right side of the painting.
