The Last Snow
Description
1966, oil on cardboard, 49,5x69 cm /// The style of painter Edgars Vinters (1919–2014) is characterised by a blend of realism and impressionism. The landscape depicts the early spring season, with a motif of melting snow. In the centre of the composition, emphasis is placed on the tree. In the background, the silhouette of a country house is depicted. The main focus is on the representation of the earth’s structure, created with several layers of paint and observed tonal nuances, thus achieving a realistic depiction of nature. The dominant brushstroke technique features soft and greasy brushstrokes, especially in the representation of trees, while the earth’s surface is rendered with horizontal, thick strokes. The colour palette is dominated by shades of brown earth, which contrast with the dusty-blue sky and the depiction of spring sunlight. /// The artist’s signature and date are on the lower right side of the painting.
