Apple Tree in Cesvaine

Description

1984, ink, nib pen on paper, 52x56,5 cm /// Kārlis Dobrājs (1943) is one of the classics of Latvian painting. His style is characterized by the quality of the academic drawing, the emphasis placed on form and volume of the depicted objects. In his career the artist has also created works in manual graphics technique and has won several art awards. In his graphic series he has captured landscapes from places where he once went for plein air sessions. One of his favourite places of the plein air was Cesvaine, where Dobrājs went since his student years and later as a lecturer. The drawing is created in ink technique with an emphasis on the line. The apple tree, which often appears in Dobrāj's work has been chosen as the central motif. /// The artist’s signature is in two places: on the lower right side, title and date on the lower left side, but date on centre.
