Summer Landscape with a Bridge and Haystacks
Description
Oil on cardboard, 47 x 67 cm, 1977 /// Edgars Vinters (1919-2014) is a Latvian landscape and still life painter. His style is characterized by following the tradition of Realism and Impressionism. Latvian countryside landscape depicting a sunny summer day. A small bridge and haystacks are chosen as central motifs. In the painting, the emphasis is on the depiction of natural events according to the season - the bright daylight that fills the entire composition, the vital green colour with its various nuances, and the haystacks’ symbolic message of the fullness of summer. A clear composition structure is observed with a voluminous foreground, in the central part and the representation of a wooden bridge, while in the background depicted clouds, the silhouette of a forest, and haystacks. Also masterfully is shown the interplay of lights and shades. The painting is made with a softened brushstroke technique. The artist’s signature and dating are on the lower left side of the painting.
