Spring Landscape

New

Description

Oil on cardboard, 70 x 91 cm, 1999 /// The style of the painter Edgars Vinters (1919-2014) is characterized by following the tradition of Realism and Impressionism, which is best demonstrated in his landscape paintings. Spring in Latvian landscape painting is a persistent and popular motif with its established practice and history. Specific artwork depicts early spring on a sunny day with melting snow in places. The composition is made fragmentary, with individual objects highlighted. Emphasis is placed on the depiction of tree trunks. One of the essential elements is the representation of light. The presence of the bright spring sun in the painting is achieved with the light blue sky in the background and the interplay of light and shades in the tree branches in the foreground. Shapes are modelled with soft and closely spaced brushstrokes. In colour palette dominates brown tones. The artist’s signature and dating are on the lower right.
