Recomendet

Description

1996, oil on canvas, 146x135 cm (with frame 152x141x4 cm) /// Herbert Siliņš (1926–2001) was one of the Latvian painters working in the tradition of 20th-century colour painting. His style is characterised by pure, vibrant colours and a lively, fresh contemporary perspective. One of the recurring themes in his work is architecture – particularly Gothic architecture. He found inspiration in the monumental forms and verticality of French and Spanish Gothic cathedrals. These influences led him to create a series of paintings in which elements of Gothic architecture appear through his distinctive artistic language – expressed in dynamic, multilayered textures and emotionally intensive compositions. Siliņš’ works are in private and public collections worldwide, including museum collections: Latvian National Museum of Art (Riga, Latvia), Museum Ludwig (Cologne, Germany), the State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow, Russia), Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw (Warsaw, Poland), National Museum in Poznan (Poznan, Poland), the Olympic Museum (Lausanne, Switzerland), Royal Academy of Arts (London, UK). /// The artist’s signature located on the lower left side of the painting.
