Art Collector Matti Milius

Description

Oil on cardboard, 80x60 cm (with frame 85x65x3 cm) /// Painter Kārlis Siliņš (1958) is distinguished by an expressive artistic style, vivid colour palette, and deliberate deformation of forms. In this work, the artist portrays the renowned Estonian contemporary art collector Matti Milius (1945–2015), who began building his unique collection in the mid-1960s and became one of the most significant art collectors in the Baltic region. His collection also included works by numerous Latvian artists. Through the use of vibrant colours and ornamental patterns, Siliņš successfully captures Milius’ eccentric personality and striking public image. Owing to his charismatic character, friendships with artists, and bohemian lifestyle, Milius was portrayed by several Baltic artists. /// The artist’s signature is located in the lower left corner of the painting.
